Different Carpet Types

With so many different flooring options to consider, where is a home owner supposed to begin? Here at Smith & Purvis Carpet One we understand that the different possibilities can be overwhelming. One option you may consider is a beautiful new carpet to fit your lifestyle. Before you begin looking at brands of carpets, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

If the carpet you are looking for is meant for your home, then you will probably be purchasing what is known as a cut pile carpet. Cut pile carpets provide a soft feel because of the creation process. The carpet is made from yarn that is cut along its ends. There are also five different styles of cut pile carpet: velvet, Saxony, frieze, shag, and cable. The style is determined by the amount of twists in the yarn.

While style and texture may be a huge factor when considering your home carpet, that same pile cut may not be the best option when purchasing a carpet for your business. The commonly used carpet for heavy-traffic office areas is a loop pile carpet. A loop pile carpet has excellent stability that enables it to hide soil unlike other options.
